National win for Watford Walking Football Club in WFLA event
The competition – organised by the Walking Football League Alliance – took place at Redditch United FC’s ground over the weekend and invited teams from all over the country and of different age groups to compete.
Despite losing a group match, Watford made it to the semi-finals, beating Sleaford Academicals 2-0 and secured their spot in the final against Coleshill Strollers.
The final, described as a “competitively fought” match, came down to the wire with Watford scoring the winning goal in the final seconds, crowning them the champions of England.
In addition to celebrating this victory, a WWFC spokesman announced the club is in search of new members.
He said: “Walking football offers lots of health benefits. It builds strength and endurance and due to the low impact nature of the sport means it’s suitable for those with joint problems a lot of us face as we get older.
“One of its major benefits is that it improves social interaction.”
With Watford’s home ground at Everett Rovers FC boasting more than 75 playing members, both male and female, the club welcomes players from their late 40s to 75.
