QPR Walking Football Festival
On Thursday 8th May a squad of 8 travelled to Loftus Rd for the annual QPR Walking Football Festival, there were 4 teams in attendance, 3 made up of QPR supporters and a representative team from Watford Walking Football Club.
After a briefing from Mick, the organiser, we held a minute’s silence around the centre circle in memory of Robert Kent (member of Watford Walking Football Club)
This was a festival of walking football so no trophies or medals to play for, rather a celebration of walking football and to raise funds for charity. The format was 7 A -Side, 3 touch, 2x 9-minute halves per game.
In our first game we played some good football and took the lead (Terry O’Donnell) before succumbing to a fourth run and being awarded a penalty against us which they scored, and the game ended 1-1
In our second game we dominated possession and ran out comfortable winners 3-0 (John Field, Terry O’Donnell, Simon Swinnerton).
The last game was a well fought affair, although we dominated possession again with some good one and two touch football we couldn’t capitalise on our created chances and a late equaliser for QPR again saw this end 1-1 (Simon Swinnerton).
After the games there was a raffle, and it was announced that £340 was raised for the QPR Trust. A very enjoyable morning of football played on the turf at Loftus Rd.
